LOUISVILLE, Ky. — On 7th and Magnolia streets, an SUV couldn't make it through the afternoon's peak rush of rain. Nobody was injured.

Similar stories repeated throughout Louisville according to Monica Harkins, a spokesperson for MetroSafe. By 5:00 p.m., 30 calls for water-related emergencies came in. She said more kept coming.

One caller received extra help from their dispatcher early on.

"Someone called [911] and said, 'hey, my car is stuck in the water here. What do I do?'" Harkins recalled. "The call taker jumps into action, and says, 'as long as you feel safe and comfortable to get out of your car, that's the best thing that you can do.' While we asked for first responders to arrive."

On Algonquin Parkway, two more cars were abandoned. Public Works blocked the low stretch.
