BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Buncombe County Board of Commissioners has accepted a construction bid to complete a new Emergency Medical Services facility in Swannanoa.

Officials said the board accepted a bid from Carolina Specialties Construction for the EMS East project, which is slated to be completed in 2027 at 750 Old U.S. 70 Highway. It will be 12,214 square feet with three double-loaded bays holding six emergency vehicles, a bay area with an exhaust protection system, 12 bedrooms, a day room, a kitchen and dining area and a medical supply and equipment storage room.

The facility is meant to help reduce emergency call response times in the eastern portion of the county.
