Washington ― The U.S. Senate on Tuesday evening voted to confirm Dearborn Heights Mayor Bill Bazzi to be the U.S. ambassador to the north African country of Tunisia.
Bazzi was approved by a party-line vote of 51-47 as part of a bloc of 108 nominees ― a group confirmation made possible by a recent rule change by Senate Republicans to speed up the confirmation process for President Donald Trump's picks for his administration.
Trump nominated Bazzi in March to serve in the top U.S. diplomatic post in Tunisia, an Arab country of 12.3 million residents.
Bazzi, 62, had backed Trump's candidacy in 2024 and appeared at Michigan campaign rallies in support of the Republican.
