MADISON, Wis. — The Universities of Wisconsin released its new proposed core general education requirements to comply with Wisconsin Act 15 — and some students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison are concerned about the future of the school’s undergraduate ethnic studies requirement as the plan stands.
In July, the Wisconsin State Legislature approved Act 15, which required the Board of Regents to “establish policies for the appropriate transfer of credits between institutions within the system.”
It proposes that all campuses ensure their general education requirements follow the framework of six broad categories, 10–12 courses, and 30–36 credit hours:
Mathematics and quantitative reasoning
Communication and literacy
Social and behavioral science
Humanities and arts
