There's a new snack that can make you healthier – but it's not something you eat.
A new report has revealed that quick and easy "exercise snacks" can significantly boost cardiorespiratory fitness in physically inactive adults.
It's good news for millions of Australians who currently fit that profile.
So what are exercise snacks?
A report from the British Journal of Sports Medicine defined exercise snacks as bursts of moderate to vigorous physical activity lasting five minutes or less.
Examples include climbing stairs or lifting weights.
That five-minute period excludes warm-up, cool down, and recovery periods, and exercise snacks should be repeated at least twice a day, three to seven days a week.
