PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - Portland’s Broadway Bridge is about to close for repairs for the next six months. Traffic and public transportation will be re-routed - in some cases, miles down the waterfront.
Built in 1913, the Broadway Bridge connects Portland’s Pearl District on the west and the Rose Quarter on the east side. However, Multnomah County says its bridge deck (the part we drive on) is failing, with water building up in the parts that move.
From this upcoming Monday, Oct. 13, until April, you’ll see work done on one piece at a time as contractors replace the deck with steel.
The bridge will be closed to all traffic during that time, impacting every commuter differently.
TriMet’s bus line 17 will be rerouted across the Steel Bridge. Streetcar riders, though, face a 30-to-40 minute
