Indian cricket finds itself entering a transition phase as the Gautam Gambhir-led team management has handed over the ODI captaincy reins to Shubman Gill. Touted as the ‘Prince’ of Indian cricket, Gill replaces Rohit Sharma as ODI skipper. Rohit enjoyed a golden run at the helm, having led India to the ODI World Cup 2023 final and the Champions Trophy 2025 triumph.
Under Rohit’s captaincy, losses were rare in white-ball cricket, as he guided the team to 42 ODI victories out of 56 matches, losing just 12. He holds a win percentage of 75% — the best for an Indian captain and the second-best in the world among skippers with a minimum of 50 matches in charge.
Despite his remarkable record, Rohit has been asked to step aside at 38 years of age, with the next ODI World Cup still two years away
