A medical helicopter crashed onto Highway 50 Monday evening , prompting witnesses to spring into action to assist in the rescue efforts.

Kenneth De Crescenzo, who was driving nearby, described seeing the helicopter flying very low, skimming just above the tree line and freeway. Moments later, Elvin Norman recalled seeing smoke right in front of them as they came to a stop.

Christine Norman urged them to help, despite concerns about the helicopter potentially exploding.

"I said, 'Go out there and see if you can help,' and as soon as I did that, I'm like, 'Well, I hope it doesn't blow up and I hope he's going to be OK,' but this is the right thing to do," she said.
