SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall has declared a state of emergency after weekend storms in the Rose Park neighborhood.

The order lasts for 30 days and helps the city and Salt Lake County request financial aid, buy materials, and possibly help Rose Park residents with state or federal assistance if those options are made available.

In a 14-hour span on Saturday, 2.47 inches of rain fell in Salt Lake City, almost beating the the city’s record for the amount of precipitation. That record was set 124 years ago.

The National Weather Service reported that more rain fell on Saturday in Salt Lake City than had fallen in June, July, August, and September.
