Dolly Parton’s sister is urging fans to pray for the country music icon as she faces health challenges that have led to the postponement of several concerts. The 79-year-old singer announced on September 29 that she would delay her upcoming Las Vegas shows due to unspecified health issues.
Freida Parton shared her concerns on social media, stating, "Last night, I was up all night praying for my sister, Dolly. Many of you know she hasn't been feeling her best lately." She encouraged fans to join her in prayer, saying, "I truly believe in the power of prayer, and I have been led to ask all of the world that loves her to be prayer warriors and pray with me."
Dolly Parton was scheduled to perform six sold-out shows at Caesars Palace in December. However, she announced that her health would not allow her to rehearse adequately for the performances. In her social media posts, she explained, "My doctors tell me that I must have a few procedures. As I joked with them, it must be time for my 100,000-mile check-up, although it's not the usual trip to see my plastic surgeon!"
Parton reassured her fans that she is not retiring, stating, "Don't worry about me quittin' the business because God hasn't said anything about stopping yet. But I believe He is telling me to slow down right now so I can be ready for more big adventures with all of you." She has rescheduled the concerts for next September.
Earlier in September, Parton had to miss an event at her theme park, Dollywood, due to a kidney stone that caused an infection. She shared in a video, "The doctor said, 'You don't need to be traveling right this minute, so you need a few days to get better.'"
Parton has also paused new music projects following the death of her husband, Carl Dean, on March 3. In a heartfelt tribute, she reflected on their 60 years together, saying, "Like all great love stories, they never end. They live on in memory and song."
Freida Parton concluded her message with optimism, stating, "She's strong, she's loved, and with all the prayers being lifted for her, I know in my heart she's going to be just fine. Godspeed, my sissy Dolly. We all love you!"
