ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. — Leaders at the Samaritan House in Orangeburg County say they need immediate financial help to continue serving people experiencing homelessness through the rest of the year.

The shelter operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and has 55 beds. But right now, leaders say they’re facing a budget shortfall of nearly $100,000.

“Our annual budget is around $400,000 and that's very tight, that's very tight for us because when we find quarters, housing for families to move out, they have nothing,” said Brenda Jamerson, board chairwoman for the Samaritan House.

In the past, Orangeburg County provided $40,000 in 2023 and $45,000 in 2024. This year, county leaders say they were unable to continue that funding.
