LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - Oct. 8 will mark 100 days in office for Lake Charles Mayor Marshall Simien.

Simien was officially sworn in on June 30, making history as the first black mayor elected in Lake Charles.

“I want to make our city proud,” Simien said.

He says his first chapter has been busy.

“It’s a big city. It’s a bigger city than people realize, and there are a lot of things always happening. We’ve opened a few parks, we’ve had press conferences when we had crime issues, we’ve been to a lot of meetings, we’ve been through a few council meetings, met with councilmen, talked with different groups,” Simien said.

It’s been especially busy for Simien’s administration since there were multiple changes in the city government this election.
