AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - An overflow crowd packed Pleasant Valley Methodist Church Tuesday night as virtually all attendees voiced opposition to Xcel Energy’s proposed $600 million solar farm in Potter County.
The contentious community meeting focused on the Oneida 2 Solar Project , one of eight new generation resources Xcel told the Public Utility Commission it wants to build.
The proposed solar facility would be located north of Amarillo in Potter County near Loop 335 and south of Cherry Avenue, spanning over 1,300 acres.
Residents expressed strong opposition to the project asking Xcel not to build the solar farm in their community.
Many raised concerns about property values, environmental impacts, and the project’s proximity to residential areas and a school.
