LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - We’re close to a week into the federal government shutdown, and airports across the country are feeling the repercussions.

Right now, essential workers like TSA agents and air traffic controllers are working without pay, until the government reopens.

Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said the situation is adding even more stress to their already tough jobs.

“We’re tracking sick calls, sick leave, and have we had a slight tick up in sick calls, yes. And then you’ll see delays that come from that right,” said Duffy.

Here in Michigan, Detroit Metro Airport said it does not anticipate any disruptions.

Gerald R. Ford Airport in Grand Rapids recommends that passengers keep a close eye on their flight status.
