CHENNAI: Strong weather patterns are developing over the Bay of Bengal and Southern India. Because of this, Tamil Nadu is expected to get widespread heavy rain for the next full week. The government has issued an Orange Alert, warning 12 districts to be ready for very heavy rainfall.

The meteorological conditions have been influenced by the weakening of Cyclone ‘Shakti’ in the Arabian Sea, which has now downgraded into a low-pressure area. However, the primary trigger for the intense rainfall is an atmospheric circulation over the southwest Bay of Bengal, off the Tamil Nadu coast, coupled with another low-pressure area over the southern parts of India.
