HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KSNW) - The Hutchinson City Council has approved the Landmark Reinvestment Housing Incentive District (RHID), paving the way for much-needed apartments in the city.
The RHID is a program designed to aid developers in building housing within communities by assisting in the financing of public infrastructure improvements.
Hutchinson and the owners of the Landmark building will utilize the program to finance the conversion of the structure, converting its upper levels into loft apartments while retaining the lower levels for retail and commercial use.
The Landmark Hotel, originally built in 1923 as the Stamey Hotel, was once a premier destination but has been vacant for years.
The nearly $14 million renovation, which began in February 2024, will add about 40 new apartmen
