A pro-Palestinian rally at the Sydney Opera House has “disaster written all over it”, police say, as they fear attendance could be double that of previous estimates.

The state’s Court of Appeal is playing host to a test case on protesting rights, as NSW Police attempt to block a protest planned for Sunday with a prohibition order.

The Palestine Action Group, which is behind the Harbour Bridge protest, organised the rally despite criticism from Jewish groups over its timing.

The demonstration will occur just days after the two-year anniversary of the October 7 massacre.

Chief Justice Andrew Bell and Justices Stephen Free and Ian Harrison have been presiding over the hearing on Wednesday.
