You certainly couldn’t have expected the Blue Jays to simply cruise through New York on the way to a division series sweep of the defending American League champions, but given the way the game started, there was good reason to think that way.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. homered in the first inning, going deep for the third straight game, a two-run shot to get the Jays on top immediately, and the Jays chased starter Carlos Rodón in the third inning with four more runs, the big blow a two-run single by Anthony Santander.
It was 6-1 going to the bottom of the third and the Jays hadn’t lost a game that they had led by as many as five runs all season.
But they didn’t score again, the Yankees got the next eight, and the series is going to Game 4 on Wednesday.
