MURRAY – The Murray Police Department said Tuesday that it had charged a Florida teen after the suspect allegedly gave a false report, a practice often referred to as “swatting.”
A news release said MPD officers responded on Aug. 30 to a report of an armed individual threatening harm to himself and others. Officers quickly determined the report was a swatting incident involving a spoofed phone number and a fake call for service. While on scene, additional bomb threats were made toward the City of Murray by the same suspect, police said.
An investigation was conducted, and a 17-year-old juvenile from Boca Raton, Florida, was identified as the caller. The juvenile was charged with falsely reporting an incident which generates an emergency response, first-degree terroristic threatening and
