A brazen masked gang have been caught apparently using a power tool in an attempt to steal a bike in front of shocked Edinburgh locals in broad daylight. ‌

The moment was captured on Monday by a customer at a restaurant on St Andrew Square, with several of the group appearing to be riding the new Voi hire bikes with their faces covered. ‌

The shocking footage posted on YouTube shows a large group, all clad in dark clothing, on the bright pink Voi bikes are part of a scheme recently rolled out to provide a convenient method of travel around the city. ‌

As one individual loops around, another can be seen taking machinery to a bike lock as sparks fly . In the background, witnesses can be heard saying: "What the f***. They're stealing bikes in broad daylight bro."
