: A day before Haryana Inspector General of Police (IGP) Y Puran Kumar was found dead with a gunshot wound at his Chandigarh residence, it has come to light that the senior IPS officer had been booked in a bribery case.

Officials said Kumar was reportedly distressed after his name was included in the FIR filed by Rohtak Police on a liquor contractor’s complaint, alleging that his aide had demanded Rs2.5 lakh in his name.

Kumar was transferred to the Police Training College in Sunaria in Rohtak September 29. Previously, he was posted as the IG (Rohtak Range). The contractor, in a complaint, had submitted CCTV footage and audio recordings as evidence to substantiate his allegations.
