In a move to celebrate India’s rich handloom heritage, Mizoram University has directed all students, faculty, and staff to wear handloom-based garments at least once a week.

The initiative, approved by the Vice-Chancellor, aims to foster greater appreciation for traditional textiles within academic life.

According to a notification issued by Assistant Registrar C. Lalfakkimi, the directive—framed under the Ministry of Education’s guidelines—encourages everyone on campus to don handloom attire preferably on Wednesdays as part of the university’s cultural practice.
