NEW DELHI: "Parmatma ne bola tha, isliye kiya," said suspended advocate Rakesh Kishore, a day after he allegedly hurled a shoe at Chief Justice of India B R Gavai during proceedings in the Supreme Court. Monday morning's incident sparked protests outside his Riverview Apartments residence in Mayur Vihar on Tuesday, as demonstrators surrounded the society gates, carrying garlands of shoes, images of Dr B R Ambedkar and copies of the Constitution. Condemning the attack as an affront to the Dalit community, they chanted slogans like "CJI ka apmaan nahi sahega Hindustan". Heavy police deployment was seen at the complex, with barricades set up to control the crowd. Several residents said complaints had been filed against Kishore in the past over "violent behaviour".
