Teenagers who have recently turned 18 and reside in Mumbai will not be able to vote in the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections. Several Gen Z voters have raised concerns regarding facing challenges while registering themselves as eligible voters for the civic body elections.
India Today TV spoke to Maharashtra Joint Chief Electoral Officer, Mandar Parkar, who explained that as the cutoff date for voter registration was set before the assembly polls, held in November last year, and no special summary revision was carried out since, the electoral roll for new voters has effectively been frozen.
As a result, officials estimate that nearly 1.80 lakh teenagers in the western state have been impacted by the freezing move.
