THIS MUST BE the best autumn weather in years. And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, it did with the opening of razor clam season!

If you don’t know what a razor clam is, you are probably not from around here.

Unlike steamer, butter and horse clams, razors are only found on the ocean.

Digging clams on the ocean beaches, subject to the violence of the raging surf, where a rogue wave can sweep you out to sea, requires a special tool kit and attitude compared with clamming on the quiet waters of the Salish Sea.

That is why we look forward to digging clams in the daylight hours, when you can take in the spectacular scenery and dig your limit without getting hypothermia or worse.
