Police in Mwanza are investigating the death of a 21-year-old woman, identified as Maggie Peter, who is reported to have taken her own life by hanging in Kalanga Village.

According to Mwanza Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Ritta Mchecheta Nyirongo, the incident occurred on October 5, 2025.

Nyirongo said the deceased had gone out with a friend to a local drinking spot, but the two later separated. When she failed to return home, her friend went searching for her and discovered her body hanging at her residence.

The matter was reported to Kalanga Police Unit, and a postmortem conducted at Mwanza District Hospital confirmed that death was due to suffocation caused by hanging.
