RHINEBECK — Members of American Legion Post 429 are fighting back against $230,000 in claims after an accidental dryer fire that broke out in an upstairs apartment on September 8.

Fire crews arrived quickly, but flames and water caused extensive damage upstairs and in the canteen and banquet hall below. The canteen and banquet hall–coming into the holiday season — are the post’s main revenue source, according to Commander John Imperato. “We help veterans who walk in needing money to get home, or connect them with the VA,” he said. “We support the community however we can — now we’re the ones who need help.”
