As peaceful and quiet days carry on in Portland, President Donald Trump continues to assert that the city is a “never-ending disaster,” according to his posts on his own social network, Truth Social.
Earlier in the week, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth authorized 200 Oregon National Guard members to mobilize in Portland for 60 days, though it is not clear when those troops will arrive. On Oct.1, Trump said troops were already in place, but as of that evening troops were still absent outside of the ICE office in Southwest Portland.
Last w eek, just a handful of protesters stood outside the building most evenings. And during the days, just a few protesters can be seen, often sitting in camp chairs, holding handmade signs as cars drive by offering a supportive honk now and then.
