Canada extends open work permit deadline for permanent resident applicants

Canada has introduced significant relief regarding Open work permits for applicants transitioning from temporary resident to permanent resident under a new pathway.

The last date for the temporary public policy that facilitated the issuance of open work permits to eligible individuals in Canada under the temporary resident to permanent resident pathway has been extended by the Canadian government.

One can now apply for an open work permit until December 31, 2026. The deadline to apply for an open work permit has been extended until December 31, 2026.

The extended public policy will now allow the issuance of open work permits until December 31, 2026, to avoid the need for renewals and expand the eligibility criteria of the open work permit public policy to include eligible family members
