In the final week of June, Jordan Kyrou tried to avoid the rumors and the rumblings, the whispers and the gossip. His name was in trade rumors, and all he had to do was wait until July 1 for clarity, since that was when his no-trade clause would kick in.

“Just go about my day,” Kyrou said. “Same day as every other day. Woke up, work out, skate, try not to look at anything.”

But in the back of his mind, he knew that if his future was going to change, if his mailing address needed updating, this summer would have been one of the final times when he didn’t have a say in it.
