Mesa County staff have proposed keeping the county’s hiring freeze in place through 2026.

County Administrator Todd Hollenbeck told the Mesa County Commissioners on Tuesday during a budget update that staff is proposing to keep the freeze, which evaluates potentially open positions on a case-by-case basis to see if they need to be filled, through the next budget year.

“We’re still projecting some flat revenues (from) sales tax, and impacts on the grant side, both from federal, state side are impacting our budget, and we want to make sure we’re aware of that, that we’re handling that responsibly,” Hollenbeck said.

Hollenbeck said the budget as a whole focuses on people, infrastructure and stewardship.
