MURRAY, Utah — Salt Lake City police have arrested a 24-year-old man in connection to a hit-and-run collision that killed a 53-year-old Murray woman in August. Nathan Michael Portillo was arrested on Tuesday and faces several charges, including failure to remain at the scene of an accident and murder.

According to court documents, on August 31 at 11:06 p.m., Kimberley Jean Jespersen was walking northbound crossing 4500 South on the east side of State Street. Police say Jespersen was in the crosswalk.

At that point, officers say, a gray vehicle made a left turn on a flashing yellow light and collided with Jespersen.

Jespersen would get up and begin talking to the driver of the vehicle that hit her. During the conversation, officials say the light for eastbound traffic turned green.
