A Hunter man will face court on Thursday morning, October 9, charged over the shooting death of another man on a property at Cassilis.

Emergency services were called to the property on Rotherwood Road in the Upper Hunter village, roughly 50 kilometres northwest of Merriwa, about 8.50am to look into reports a 71-year-old had been shot while hunting.

Paramedics were unable to help the man. He was declared dead at the scene.

Police said a report would be prepared for the coroner.
