CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The City of Charleston is preparing for the possibility of tidal flooding Thursday and Friday as a coastal low pressure system combines with seasonal high tides.

Elevated tides will cause flooding in low-lying areas, with the worst expected Thursday and Friday morning, according to city officials. Flooding will likely impact vulnerable areas and the morning commute.

Tide Schedule and Expected Levels Thursday: 10:06 a.m., 8.0 ft; 10:31 p.m., 7.6 ft Friday: 11:02 a.m., 8.5 ft; 11:28 p.m., 7.0 ft

In anticipation of flooding, city crews are clearing storm drains and ditches in areas known to see flooding. Barricades are also being placed for any street closures, and two of the city’s garages will offer free overnight parking to help protect vehicles from water.
