Palm Springs has paid a group of former Section 14 residents and their descendants $5.9 million, potentially ending a yearslong legal saga over the city's role in evicting people from their homes in the 1950s and 1960s.
The city reached an agreement with group, which calls itself the Section 14 Survivors, in November of 2024, but had not handed over the money until now due to delays in verifying the claims of over 1,000 residents and their families.
