JOHNSON COUNTY, Iowa — Robert Seals of Iowa City has been found guilty of second-degree sexual abuse of a child, a Class B felony, in Iowa District Court. Chief District Judge Lars Andersen delivered the verdict on October 3, following a bench trial in July. Seals, 47, could face up to 25 years in prison with a mandatory minimum of 17.5 years. He was acquitted of a related charge involving the distribution of controlled substances to a minor. Prosecutors say the conviction stems from a November 2, 2022, incident where Seals and a co-defendant provided drugs and alcohol to a 13-year-old and forced her into sexual acts.
