PORT HURON, MI — St. Clair County commissioners spent nearly 20 minutes Oct. 2 debating how to respond to remarks made by Health Advisory Board member Kevin Watkins during a Sept. 17 meeting — ultimately voting 4-2 to issue a letter of reprimand that board chair Steven Simasko called “the most modest but necessary action.”

Commissioner Dave Rushing made the motion to reprimand Watkins, stating, “Whether it was Kevin or anybody else serving on any other board anywhere in this county, they should not be using that type of language. … If it comes to me with any other resident or board member that does that, I will take the same position.”

The motion passed 4-2, with Commissioners Simasko, Rushing, Kerry Ange and Joi Torello voting in favor, and Commissioners Lisa Beedon and Dave Vandenbossc
