COLUMBUS, Ohio —

Citing a consumer product safety emergency, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine has signed an executive order that will temporarily ban the sale of intoxicating hemp products in the state.

The order, which takes effect Oct. 14, requires retailers to remove intoxicating hemp products from shelves and cease all sales or be subject to a fine. Advertisement

After Oct. 14, DeWine says local and state authorities will have the power to seize intoxicating hemp products. Businesses violating the order may be subject to a fine of $500 a day while the product remains on sale.

The order will last 90 days, after that it will be expired or extended. He says that's up to the legislature.
