LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Michigan Department of Natural Resources reports that the Benzie Road wildfire near Houghton Lake in Roscommon County is "100% contained."

Firefighter crews will be dousing water on the remaining hot spots near the fire's perimeter on Wednesday.

"They will be out there for the next several days, mopping up to make sure the fire remains contained," said Jeff Vasher, resource protection manager for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, in a news release sent to 6 News.

The fire was first reported on Sunday afternoon, east of Old U.S. Highway near the Clare-Roscommon county line in a marshy area with mixed conifer and hardwood forest.
