MONTICELLO – The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office has launched a new K-9 program in the jail division.

K-9 Lea and her handler, Deputy John Wagner Jr, have completed eight weeks of intensive training at the Ulster County Sheriff’s K9 Academy, achieving certification in narcotics detection. “Ulster County Sheriff’s Office sent a deputy with his dog, and we actually did a facility shakedown, and the dog was able to detect an illegal drug that we found inside the jail. So at that moment, we, our administration, and our staff thought it was a good idea to start our own program so far, it’s been working, it’s been really good,” he said.
