Emma Dongelmans has played a number of sports in her life. Born in Orillia, Ontario, Canada, she spent time with two of her home country’s most popular sports, hockey and lacrosse, and was also a volleyball athlete for a time.

But she comes from a basketball family. At 6-foot-5, it’s quite obvious.

Dongelmans’ older brother Joey stands 6-10 and played college basketball in Canada. They learned the game from their parents Ted, who is 6-10 and played professionally in Switzerland, and Steph, who is 6-3 and was a pro player in France and Switzerland.

“It was definitely something we bonded over,” Emma said. “My mom was my coach and my dad was my brother’s coach for a while in elementary school. That’s definitely where we got our start knowing the fundamentals. I think that really structured
