A woman was killed in a wreck near Mount Holly early Monday morning, according to N.C. Highway Patrol.
The woman was driving a Honda Accord southeast on N.C. 27 about 5:45 a.m. when she attempted to pass another vehicle in an area where passing was allowed, Trooper Timothy Gagnon said.
The woman, who Highway Patrol did not identify, veered into the path of an oncoming 18-wheeler near Robinson Avenue, Gagnon said. She hit the truck head-on and was killed, Gagnon said.
A passenger in the car was hospitalized with serious injuries.
No charges are expected.
The woman was not identified Monday because troopers were preparing to notify her family of her death.
