A man living in Central Florida has been identified as the suspect in California's Palisades Fire, which caused widespread damage in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles.

The Department of Justice said the suspect has been identified as Jonathan Rinderknecht in a news conference Wednesday.

The 29-year-old is a former Pacific Palisades resident who has been living in Melbourne, a coastal city east of Orlando. He was arrested during a traffic stop conducted off the Sawgrass Lakes community, officials said.

Rinderknecht appeared before a judge on Wednesday in Orlando. He was shackled.

It's a federal case, so WESH 2 reporters were not allowed to take photos or videos from inside the courtroom.

He will be back in court on Thursday morning.
