Six Mexican activists from the Global Sumud Flotilla returned home Wednesday morning after being detained and deported from Israel.

The activists were part of a coalition of international volunteers who attempted to break the blockade on Gaza to deliver aid by sea.

Family members and supporters gathered at Mexico City’s international airport, waving Palestinian flags and chanting as the group emerged from the terminal.

Some embraced through tears, while others handed the returning activists bouquets of flowers.

They denounced mistreatment while being held in Israel before their deportation.

Israeli authorities have rejected mistreatment accusations that have emerged in interviews with activists who were deported in recent days.

The interception of the flotilla led to large-scale demonstrations in cities across the world.
