A North Carolina man says he was picked up after a traffic stop on an erroneously issued arrest warrant and spent almost two days in Northampton County Prison before he was finally released, according to a lawsuit.
Mekhi LaPierre says he was wrongfully arrested Aug. 10, 2024, and then taken to county prison. He wasn’t set free until Aug. 12, 2024, according to his lawsuit filed Wednesday in federal court.
“Because this matter involves pending litigation, we cannot provide further comment at this time,” said Northampton County Deputy Director of Administration Jessica Berger.
LaPierre says he violated a protection-from-abuse order when he was 17 and was adjudicated delinquent through the county juvenile system in April 2024.
