Former Jays star Vernon Wells doubled down today on his criticism of John Schneider’s management in yesterday’s game.

He took issue with Schneider’s decision to pull starter Shane Bieber in the third inning after only 53 pitches.

“Why go out and trade for him if you can’t trust that he can get himself out of trouble?” Wells, who played 12 seasons for the Jays and hit 223 home runs for the team, posted to X. “You go out and instill confidence and then let Shane be Shane. That was my immediate opinion but other things led to that loss.”
