Four people were hurt, one of them critically, in a three-car crash Oct. 4 on Route 28 in the Town of Shandaken.

New York State Police said the collision happened shortly after 1:30 p.m.

Troopers said their preliminary investigation determined a 2018 Freightliner driven by Oscar A. Madrid, 41, of Somerset, New Jersey, was traveling east on Route 28 when it struck a 2020 Mazda that was also eastbound.

The impact caused the Mazda to cross into the westbound lane, where it collided with a 2025 Subaru.

The driver of the Mazda, a 28-year-old man, and his passenger, a 35-year-old woman, both from Newburgh, were seriously hurt.

They were flown from the scene to Albany Medical Center, where the woman was later listed in critical but stable condition, and the man was listed in stable condition
