A familiar face will be helping steer the Toronto Marlies this season.

Former NHL and Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Mark Giordano is set to join the Marlies as a coaching advisor, the team announced Wednesday.

The Toronto native spent 18 years in the league, most of which came with the Calgary Flames, with whom he signed as an undrafted free agent in 2004.

He went on to be selected by the Seattle Kraken in the 2021 expansion draft, but was traded to the Maple Leafs midway through the 2021-22 season.

Though he hasn’t officially announced his retirement, Giordano hasn’t laced up since the 2023-24 season, when he played 46 games with the Maple Leafs.

Over his 18 years in the league, Giordano had 158 goals and 419 assists over 1,148 games.
