Derrick Groves, the last of 10 inmates who escaped from New Orleans jail in May, was arrested Wednesday in southwest Atlanta following a standoff with law enforcement.

Groves — who is considered the most violent of the escapees — was on the run for nearly five months, after he and the other fugitives escaped from Orleans Parish Justice Center by crawling through a hole in a cell wall.

The recapture of Groves marked an end to a sprawling multi-agency search that led to over a dozen arrest, including a jail maintenance worker who is accused of helping the inmates break out. Groves' girlfriend, former OSPO employee Darriana Burton, was arrested in June on a felony charge of conspiracy to commit simple escape in connection with the jailbreak.
