The Edmonton Oilers have signed defenseman Mattias Ekholm to a three-year contract extension with an average annual value of $4 million.

The 6’5 35-year-old played in 65 regular season games with the hockey club with nine goals and 24 assists. The Swede rejoined the team in the third round of the playoffs after suffering a late-season injury, playing in seven games with a goal and five assists.

Ekholm has played in almost 900 NHL games across his career, scoring 360 points throughout his career in Nashville and Edmonton. Mattias Ekholm was drafted 102nd overall in the 2011 draft to the Nashville Predators and was traded to Edmonton part-way through the 2022-23 season.
